National Cadet Corps can be thought of as the successor of the University Officers Training Corps (UOTC) that was founded in 1942 by British during 1942. British during 1942. In the time of World War II, the UOTC did not conform to the requirements set by the British. This led to the idea that better programs should be devised, to assist more youngsters effectively in peacetime. A group led by Pandit H.N. Kunzru suggested a cadet association to be established in colleges and schools on a larger scale. In 1948, the National Cadet Corps Act was signed by the Governor General and on the 15th of July, 1948 The National Cadet Corps was established.
In the wars that erupted between 1965 and the United States and Pakistan, NCC Cadets served as the 2nd first line of defense. They organized camps that helped the factories that produced ordinance and also supplied ammunition and weapons for the battlefront. They also functioned as patrol units to take down enemy paratroopers. The NCC Cadets also worked in conjunction with Civil Defence authorities and actively took part in rescue missions as well as traffic control. After the 1965 and the 1971 Indo-Pak conflict , the NCC syllabus was updated. Instead of being the second line of defence, the NCC syllabus was able to place more emphasis on the development of leadership and officer-like characteristics. The military-related training which NCC participants received was reduced and the emphasis was put on other areas such as social service and youth-management.
